Yeah I tried to show my mother this dateline clip about the sex abuse and she freaked. Yelling the way you do when your dog pees inside the house, better to avoid collapsing the dream then to show what's really going on. Thank Billy for sharing the info...

exJW Psychology 103--Let's Reconsider "Confidentiality"
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inover the course of decades as a jw, an elder, a bethelite, then learning ttatt and wanting to leave, i'd collected a lot of insight into the power of "confidentiality.
" although the confidentiality in a judicial hearing is supposedly to protect the sinner, in actuality, i saw that it was about control and was protecting the power of the jc.. i didn't use any of this knowledge until i was called before the boe because the other elders figured they had grounds to remove me as an elder.
it was a work situation that only lasted a matter of hours, but it was enough that they seized the moment.

When You Were A JW---What "Motivated" You To "Do More"?
by minimus inmost witnesses that i knew of were spurred on by hearing a talk designed to make them feel guilty over their not doing enough.
co's visits, assemblies and conventions motivated a few to pioneer, "reach out", etc......soon after the talks, usually, in less than a month, everyone went right back to slacking again.. did you feel "motivated" due to guilt when you were an active witness?.

The guilt was definitely a part of it but I have to say the true motivating factor in my experience was actually feeling that one of my actions could impress or bring joy to the almighty. Also experiences of older and younger people who were making great strides was really motivational. The biggest and truest source of motivation was the fear of disappointing God, your family, your friends, your WORLD. Fear is the greatest control, ask Macchiavelli. "Since love and fear can hardly exist together, if we must choose between them, it is far safer to be feared than loved." -Niccolo Machiavelli

Family is drawing the line in the sand
by dissonance_resolved inso my family has obviously been noticing over the past several months that i've been missing meetings and fs.
i've had excuses sometimes, but not others, so my parents are definitely getting that this is more than a long bout of illnesses or fatigue.
i just received an email invitation to join them in service this weekend.

Just be honest and brace yourself for some really heated conversations. Remember to not attack and put down their beliefs, as much as you might not like being told "you're wrong "they don't either.

Unbelievable Experience in Yearbook
by gingerbread ina number of years back i heard a story of a young girl in a congregation ( i have some good friends in this hall ) who had an amazing field service experience.
it was so amazing that it was retold in the 2007 yearbook!.

So my question is, we're taught service is led by angels. How can it be, whan a sick perv like this uses those opportunities to violate privacy?

Can anyone explain this reasoning?
by Honesty inwhen a jw goes from door to door on a daily basis, they are called pioneers and it is a good thing.. it is an act of love when they share their knowledge with householders.. .
however, if that pioneer learns more about the watchtower society's beliefs when compared with the bible and tries to share that knowledge with current members he is attacking his brothers and sisters and is mentally diseased.. when he shares his knowledge about the watchtower society's involvement with the un and other political entities with the brothers and sisters it is called an act of hate.. in both instances, we have similar actions and motivations but the watchtower society comes to completely different conclusions.. does it have anything to do with control or is it related to something else?.

Pioneering and even taking account of your field time makes me think about Martin Luther and the scandal he caused claiming you can't earn your freedom or eternity by good deeds. It still amuses me to think that you're classified a devote person who especially loves God dependent on the hours you preach.
The point and answer to your question is this:
They don't want you to say anything that would cause others to question their beliefs.
Say you brought up cases like Candace Conti and started sharing that with others, it obviously would be viewed negatively as the information you spread could "stumble" others. When all that really means is that you might actually convince someone else with cold hard facts.

Why send Satan down to earth in 1914 - didn't we have enough problems?
by Xanthippe ini was just reading an old watchtower quote on another thread, he was quoting it straight from jw.org by the way, and i was astonished to be reminded of this teaching.
why would a loving god crown his son king and then send satan and hordes of demons to our planet?.
we live in a huge universe, why send these monsters here?

Definitely one of those questions I didn't have until recently- literally the best answer I received is: "I don't know, that's a good question."

by sosoconfused inwell first i want to thank everyone here for the good points etc... i have received over the last few months.
you guys have really been helpful!.
so the other day my mother wrote me a 3 page letter telling me how she was so scared for me because she could tell my love for the truth was gone etc.. so i decided i wanted to totally rip the band-aid off and get this matter over and done with.

can completely relate with you, it seems I lost my mother last night. It's crazy to see the moment you're mother disowns you- the precise moment when she has determined that you're stupid and an idiot for reading the newspaper or asking about how God could allow sex abuse if this was his chosen people?
Anyways I send my strenth you're way and I'm sure tons of people on here know exactly what you're feeling. Think happy thoughts and try to leave the past where it belongs; in the past.

Beyond Bitterness?
by DogGone inlike many, my path to the ttatt was a long and painful journey.
i wasnt mature or intellectually honest enough to "wake up" while still an active witness.
(i applaud those who have awaken while active; that is mental rigour i wish i had!

Maybe we all just wanted to believe that we had a shot at something fantastic. I know I would get lost in thought imagining what it would be like to meet my dead loved ones. The truth about the truth is there's a lot of things going on that don't make sense and bring up those huge red flags deep down inside. I raise a glass to those out and in because somewhere in the most profound parts of their heart they believe or don't and anger is undoubtedly the first reaction. Even bitterness but I'm sure those things will pass with time as we embark on some other new journey. -Sammy

Watchtower's April 9 BOE Confidentiality Letter - Child Abuse - Did Jane Doe lawsuit play a major part?
by SweetBabyCheezits ini'd bet my left.... pinky toe that the wt's monster 4/9 confidentiality letter was put out as a direct result of the jane doe/candace vs wt case as they were preparing to go to trial.
there had already been a year of legal proceedings - surely the wt knew the shit was about to hit the fan.. thanks goes to atlantis for posting the boe letters originally as pdfs.
the person that a restraining order is a personal legal matter that does not involve the congregation.. thereafter, the elders should call the legal department immediately for direction..

Does anyone have the BOE letter for 10/01/2012?
